Shadowridge Stop Sign

Residents Input on Proposed Roundabout

The City is proposing a roundabout at Shadowridge and Live Oak Road to replace the stop sign. The stop signs were installed in 2013 to address a long history of speeding complaints on Shadowridge Drive.  The proposal will be discussed at the Dec. 6 Traffic Commission. Residents can provide input at the meeting or contact the Engineering Department with their thoughts on the proposal.

The Vista Fire Department reports Thanksgiving Day is one of the leading days for home cooking fires.  Ned Vander Pol, City of Vista Fire Marshal Ned Vander Pol says it’s “also a day to be extra careful, because entertaining and distractions make it easy to forget about what’s cooking on the stove.”  By making simple adjustments, residents can greatly reduce their chance of home cooking fires.

Thanksgiving City Services Schedule

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, city offices and the Vista Library will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 23-24. Trash pickup will be delayed one day if your regularly scheduled collection falls on the Thursday or Friday.


Culture Caravan Holiday Tour Schedule

The City of Vista's Travel Program, Culture Caravan, has scheduled several holiday excursions in December! Some of the sights and sounds of the season include the MiraCosta College Symphony and Emmanuel Faith holiday concerts, a holiday dinner cruise, a holiday lights tour, and much more! Culture Caravan provides deluxe roundtrip transportation from Vista, event tickets, a tour guides.

Holiday Events at the Adobe

Known as the birth place of Vista, the historic Rancho Buena Vista Adobe will be decked out for the holidays and offering special seasonal events in December. The Adobe is part of the Vista Community Clinic's Holiday Homes Tour on December 3, then on December 9, Santa visit the Adobe.

Save the Dates for Parents Night Out

The Recreation Department will be offering Parents Night Out programs this Winter. Parents can drop off their kids at the Jim Porter Recreation Center in Brengle Terrace Park for four hours of fun and activities. This is an inexpensive way for parents to take a night off for themselves while their kids enjoy supervised activities. Winter dates are December 16, January 20, and February 24.

Holiday Toy Drive For Adopted Marine Unit

The City is collecting new, unwrapped toys or gift cards for its adopted Marine Unit, HMLA-369. The Unit was deployed in early November and the holiday gifts will help support the Marine’s family members, while the troops are overseas. Through the holiday season, residents can drop off a new toy or gift card in the Civic Center lobby.  Thanks for your support of HMLA 369 this holiday season!

Sewer Rates Set for Next Five Years

The City of Vista operates two separate sewer sanitation collection systems within its city limits, the Buena Sanitation District and the City of Vista sewer system. The Vista City Council approved sewer rates for the next five years: A 6.8 % decrease in sewer rates for Buena Sanitation District customers with no rate increases planned for the next 5 years. City of Vista sanitary sewer system customers will see a 5% increase over the next five years with no changes in the first two years, followed by a 1% increase in 2020, and a 2% increase in 2021 & 2022.

County Warns of EBT Card Scam

The County’s Health and Human Services Agency is warning anyone who uses an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card to access benefits to be aware of a text messaging scam. Perpetrators are targeting people who get CalWORKs, CalFresh and General Relief. The scammers send a text about their benefits, asking them to call a phone number and to register their Social Security and other personal id’s.
