A sinkhole formed on W. Vista Way in the eastbound lane between Thunder Drive (Oceanside city limits) and Cedar Road (Vista city limits) and was reported at approximately 1:15 pm this afternoon (February 7, 2017). The eastbound travel lane between Thunder Drive and Cedar Road was closed and re-opened around 4:30 pm this afternoon.
The sinkhole was approximately 4 feet by 5 feet at the surface and 8 feet by 10 feet below the surface. The hole has been filled and compacted and the road is now reopened. A 42 inch diameter metal pipe, which dates back prior to the City of Vista's incorporation in 1963, was not fitted properly to a connecting pipe and this eventually led to the sink hole being created.
